District FAQs
- The South Tama County Community School District is located in Tama County and encompasses 262 square miles.
- The district, which has an enrollment of approximately 1700 students in pre-kindergarten through grade twelve, serves the communities of Chelsea, Montour, Tama, Toledo, Vining, and the Meskwaki Settlement.
- The staff is composed of 125 certified staff members and 90 classified staff members.
- All elementary and middle school centers use a unified curriculum for the basic core subjects: reading, math, language arts, science, and social studies with teaching specialists in the areas of physical education, art, vocal music, media, keyboarding, remedial reading, special education, and talented and gifted programs. In addition the middle school offers courses in family consumer science, vocational math, and Spanish.
- The high school offers a wide variety of courses in English, mathematics, science, social studies, the fine arts, and vocational areas. Many extracurricular programs including athletics, clubs, drama, music, and speech are available to students.
- The Partnership Center is a community-based facility designed to meet the varied needs of students. It provides a central point of coordination for student services and includes an alternative high school to meet the specific needs of area youth.
