REGULAR SESSION

OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE

COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT OF SOUTH TAMA COUNTY

 

 

The Board of Directors of the Community School District of South Tama County met in the Administrative Office, Tama, Iowa on March 19, 2007 at 7:30 p.m.

 

On call of the roll the following were present:    Alan Upah

                                                                        Donald Wacha

                                                                        Margaret Kubik

                                                                        Ron Hala

                                                                        Jackie Dvorak

 

Others present: Larry Molacek, Greg Darling, Mark Fetter, Sue Schafer, Mike Wedmore, James Husak, Jonathan Huebner, Joyce Wiese from the local newspaper and other interested citizens.

 

Moved by Kubik, seconded by Dvorak, to approve the agenda as presented. All ayes.

 

Moved by Kubik, seconded by Dvorak, to approve the 03/05/2007 special session minutes, financial reports, and bills as presented. All ayes.

 

Moved by Kubik, seconded by Wacha, to approve the following resignations and contracts as presented:

Resignations:

A.             Chelsea Carstens:        4th grade teacher

B.             Michelle Eberhart:        Elementary Aide

C.             Steve Roland:              8th grade boys basketball coach

New Contracts or Hires:

A.         None

All Ayes.

 

Moved by Kubik, seconded by Wacha, to approve the purchase of curriculum materials and books as requested in the amount of $61,116.26 for the 2007-2008 school year. All ayes.

 

Moved by Wacha, seconded by Dvorak, to approve the 2007-2008 school calendar as presented.

All ayes.

 

Moved by Kubik, seconded by Wacha, to approve the purchase of new east and west entries doors at the Middle School. Total cost including installation is $11,500.00. Doors to be purchased and installed by Allen Glass Company Inc. of Waterloo, Iowa. All ayes.

 

Tim Downs reported that Ames Environmental Inc. has tested the Old Primary building for asbestos. They have discovered asbestos around the pipes. It will be necessary to have the asbestos removed before demolishing the building. The School District is requesting bids to have the asbestos removed. Bids will be opened March 27, 2007.

 

Moved by Kubik, seconded by Dvorak, to set the 2007-2008 public Budget Hearing for April 2, 2007 at 7:35p.m. at the School Board room. All ayes.

Discussion Items:

Erica Branan and Megan McAdoo have requested early graduation. No opposition was voiced. This item will be placed on the agenda of the next meeting for action.

Tim Downs discussed the thermal heating system at the Elementary School. He is trying to determine capacity and efficiency of the current system design. He will report back to the School Board with his findings.

Discussed the track boys running on or near the highway and parking lots. It was stated that the School Board would like to limit or prevent this from happening.

The high school baseball fence was removed so that the Department of Transportation can begin work on the new highway. The fence will be replaced when they are finished.

SuperintendentÕs Report:

Mr. Molacek handed out the 2005-2006 Audit Report to the School Board members for review.

The annual site tour of the School DistrictÕs facilities is scheduled for 4/16/07.

 

Moved by Wacha, seconded by Kubik, to adjourn the meeting at 9:10 p.m. All ayes.
