RETIRING BOARD SESSION

OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION OF THE COMMUNITY

SCHOOL DISTRCT OF SOUTH TAMA COUNTY

 

The retiring Board of Directors of the Community School District of South Tama County met on September 17, 2007 in Regular Session at the Administration Building, Tama, Iowa at 7:30 p.m.

 

On call of the roll the following were present:           Alan Upah

                                                                                    Jackie Dvorak

                                                                                    Margaret Kubik-Absent

                                                                                    Ron Hala

                                                                                    Donald Wacha

 

Quorum present:

 

Also present were: Larry Molacek, Greg Darling, Mark Fetter, Michelle Yuska, Andy Bagnall,

Jill Tracy, Mike Wedmore, concerned citizens, John Speer and Joyce Wiese from the local newspaper.

 

Moved by Wacha, second by Dvorak, to approve the agenda as presented. All ayes.

 

Moved by Dvorak, second by Kubik, to approve the minutes of the 08/20/07 regular session board minutes, bills and financial reports as presented. All ayes.

 

Mr. Molacek presented the certified Abstract of Votes. The Tama County Auditor attested to results of the September 11, 2007 election. For district No. 1 Board Director position, Margaret Kubik received 181 votes, Michelle Yuska received 415 votes, and Michelle Yuska declared the winner for a three year term. For district #2 Board Director position, Andy Bagnall received 267 votes, Chris Nelson received 200 votes, Andy Bagnell declared the winner for a three-year term.

Moved by Wacha, second by Hala to accept the results from the September 11, 2007 election as declared by the Board of Supervisors. All ayes.

 

Moved by Wacha, second by Hala, to purchase the John Deere and Land Pride mower from Southern Implement for $41,750.00 with no trade-in. All ayes.

 

Routine Action Items:

Jill Tracy, Elementary Assistant Principal discussed the Reading First program progress and discontinuation of funding. The reading first program has a committee of approximately 12 teachers and staff members. They will be reviewing the program to determine what is the best avenue to take in the future.

 

Discussion Items:

Board member Donald Wacha recognized Alan Upah and Margo Kubik for their years of service to the district. The Board thanked them for their countless hours and leadership provided while serving on the South Tama School board.

Moved by Wacha, second by Hala, to go into closed session in accordance with board policy 204.30E to review or discuss records which are required or authorized by state or federal law to be kept confidential (Code of Iowa 21.5(1)(i) at 8:00 p.m. All ayes.

 

Moved by Wacha, second by Hala, to return to regular session at 8:20 p.m. All ayes.

 

Moved by Wacha, second by Hala, to adjourn at 8:25 p.m. All ayes.
